Spy Observation Training

How it works

Each round presents a fictional visual target, public-scene snapshot, or object table for a limited observation window. When it disappears, report what you observed. Change Spotting rounds show two snapshots separated by a brief visual mask, while Object Table rounds use either Item Recall or Gap Fill.

Five observation drills

• Person Details: remember a marked person's coat, headwear, carried item, or a combination of visible features.
• Vehicle Details: remember a vehicle's color, body type, plate code, or another visible identifying feature.
• Scene Scan: extract sign codes, positions, and visible feature counts such as headwear, carried bags, or vehicle body types from a short street or transit-style scene.
• Change Spotting: compare two sequential versions of the same scene and identify what changed. Field Officer and Station Chief can also include clean no-change trials.
• Object Table: study several objects at once. Item Recall asks you to select every object that was present and penalizes false selections. Gap Fill asks which object occupied each missing position.

Difficulty

Recruit uses longer viewing times and more distinctive features. Field Officer shortens the exposure and uses closer distractors. Station Chief uses the shortest exposure, denser Scene Scan and Change Spotting scenes, and subtler feature differences. Object Table progresses from 6 to 9 to 12 objects, from 2 to 3 to 4 Gap Fill positions, and from clearly different recall distractors to deliberately confusable choices. Its automatic study windows are 14, 11, and 9 seconds. In Training mode, Advanced Settings can override the Object Table study time without changing the other difficulty settings. Mixed rotates through all three difficulty levels.

Test and Training

Test mode records each response and advances without revealing correctness. At the end, missed rounds can be reviewed. Training mode marks the correct response immediately, explains the observed detail, and waits for you to continue.

Scoring and controls

Standard rounds score 0 or 100 percent. Object Table rounds can earn partial credit: Item Recall subtracts false selections from correct selections, while Gap Fill scores the share of missing positions answered correctly. The debrief keeps Object Table as one profile category and also separates Item Recall from Gap Fill, with correct recalls, misses, and false selections shown for Item Recall. Overall accuracy is the average round score. Best streak counts consecutive perfect rounds. Press 1–4 for standard answers and Gap Fill choices. Use the Pause button or P to pause or resume, and Escape to end the session early. An ended session is not saved.
