About this test: This test measures your melodic discrimination ability - how well you can detect differences between two melodic sequences. This is a fundamental music perception skill that underlies melody recognition and musical memory.

How it works:

• You'll hear two melodies played in sequence (Melody A, then Melody B)
• Sometimes they're identical, sometimes exactly one note is different
• Your task is to identify whether they were exactly the same or different

Difficulty settings:

• Melody length: Longer melodies require better working memory to hold and compare the sequences
• White keys only: Uses natural notes (C, D, E, F, G, A, B) - easier to discriminate due to familiar scale patterns
• All keys (chromatic): Includes sharps/flats, allowing more subtle pitch changes - significantly harder
• Replay option: Unlimited lets you compare multiple times; limited plays force better encoding and memory

What makes melodies different: When melodies differ, exactly one note is changed to a different pitch. The test prioritizes small pitch changes (1-2 semitones) when possible, but may use larger intervals in some cases to ensure the melodies are always genuinely different.

Tips: Try to encode the melody as a pattern or contour rather than individual notes. Pay attention to the "shape" of the melody - its rises and falls.
