How to take the test:

Choose wait interval range

A counter will appear after a random delay (2-10 seconds)
Click anywhere or press Space/Enter as fast as possible when you see the counter
Counter stops and shows your reaction time
Wait for next trial - repeat until time runs out

About the Psychomotor Vigilance Task:
PVT
is the gold standard for measuring sustained attention and alertness
Developed by NASA and used by military, medical, and research institutions
Tests your ability to maintain focus during unpredictable waiting periods
Sensitive to fatigue, sleep deprivation, and circadian rhythm effects
Lapses
(responses over 500ms) indicate reduced vigilance
False starts
(clicks before counter appears) indicate impulsivity
Unlike standard reaction tests, the random wait is the key challenge
Interpreting your results:
Mean RT under 250ms:
Excellent alertness
Mean RT 250-300ms:
Good alertness
Mean RT over 300ms:
May indicate fatigue or reduced vigilance
Lapses:
Even 1-2 lapses can indicate impaired alertness
False starts:
Suggests difficulty maintaining sustained attention
Performance typically degrades during longer sessions (10+ minutes)
