What is SART?
The Sustained Attention to Response Task (SART) is designed to test your ability to maintain focus during a boring, repetitive task. It measures how well you can sustain attention and resist mind wandering.
How it works:
- Numbers 1-9 appear one at a time in random order
- Press SPACEBAR (or tap screen on mobile) for every number EXCEPT 3
- When you see 3, withhold your response — do NOT press anything
- The task is intentionally monotonous to challenge sustained attention
- Each number appears briefly, then disappears before the next one
Scoring metrics:
- Accuracy: Overall percentage of correct responses
- Correct Hits: Number of times you correctly pressed for non-3 digits
- Commission Errors: Times you pressed when 3 appeared (false alarms)
- Omission Errors: Times you didn't press for non-3 digits (misses)
Settings explained:
- Display Duration: How long each number stays on screen (faster = harder)
- Session Length: Total number of trials (longer tests endurance)
- Target Frequency: How often "3" appears (higher = more vigilance needed)
Tips for success:
- Stay alert throughout — the task gets boring on purpose
- Develop a steady rhythm but remain vigilant for "3"
- Commission errors (pressing on 3) indicate lapses in attention
- Omission errors suggest you're going too slow or distracted
- Take breaks between sessions to maintain peak performance
