About this test: This comprehensive assessment measures cognitive processing speed — how quickly and accurately your brain takes in simple visual information and produces a response — across four classic task formats.
Part 1 — Digit Symbol Coding (45 seconds):
- A key at the top pairs each symbol with a digit (for example, △ = 1)
- One symbol appears at a time — tap or type the matching digit
- Answer as many as possible before time runs out
- Based on the Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST) format used in cognitive research
Part 2 — Symbol Search (12 rounds):
- Two target symbols are shown, with a search group of five symbols below
- Choose PRESENT if either target appears in the search group, ABSENT if not
- Both speed and accuracy count — this follows a WAIS-inspired symbol-search format
Part 3 — Trail Making (12 circles):
- Click or tap the circles in ascending order: 1 → 2 → 3 → ... → 12
- Wrong clicks flash red and count as errors — find the correct circle to continue
- Based on Part A of the classic Trail Making Test (TMT)
Part 4 — Word Recognition (12 words):
- A letter string appears — decide if it is a real English word or a fake word
- Choose REAL or FAKE as quickly and accurately as possible
- This is a lexical decision task measuring verbal processing speed
Scoring: Your final Processing Speed Score* combines speed and accuracy across all four sections. Each section also gets an individual rating with context, so you can see whether your speed is stronger on symbolic, visual-motor, or verbal material.
