📘 Detailed Instructions
The Left vs Right Hand Reaction Test measures and compares reaction speeds between your left and right hands while testing hand-switching coordination.
How it works:
- The screen displays either "LEFT" or "RIGHT"
- For LEFT: press D or F (either middle or index finger)
- For RIGHT: press J or K (either index or middle finger)
- Each hand gets equal trials for fair comparison
- Wrong key presses count as errors and that trial is retried
What it measures:
- Hand-specific reaction time – Individual speed for each hand
- Hand dominance – Which hand responds faster
- Cross-body coordination – Reading cues and executing with correct hand
- Cognitive processing – Decision-making speed under hand-switching pressure
Useful for:
- Musicians (pianists, guitarists) training finger independence
- Gamers improving multi-key coordination
- Athletes developing bilateral coordination
- Anyone wanting to balance left-right reaction speeds
Tips for improvement:
- Position your hands comfortably - use F/J (with bumps) or D/K
- Stay consistent - use the same fingers throughout the test
- Focus on the cue word, not predicting timing
- Practice with your slower hand more often
- Most people have 20-50ms difference between hands
