Objective: Spot which simple shape is hidden inside a complex tangle of lines. Exactly one of the four options is embedded in the figure.
How it works:
- Every line of the hidden shape is present in the figure, at the same size and orientation — nothing is rotated, flipped, or resized
- The answer options are drawn at exactly the same scale as the figure, so the size of an option is a genuine clue you can search by
- Tap the shape you believe is hidden — or press A–D (or 1–4) on your keyboard; the answer is then highlighted in gold inside the figure so you can see exactly where it was
- The other three shapes are verified not to appear anywhere in the figure, so there is always exactly one correct answer
- Optional time limit: with a limit set, unanswered questions count as misses when the countdown reaches zero — start with No Limit until you're familiar with the format
About this test:
- This format is based on the Embedded Figures Test, a classic measure of field independence — the ability to pick out an element from its surrounding visual context
- The skill is closely related to visual search, disembedding, and attention to detail
Tips:
- Instead of scanning the whole figure at once, pick one candidate shape and hunt for its most distinctive corner or angle
- Diagonal edges are usually rarer than horizontal and vertical ones — they make good anchors to search from
