Driving Reaction Time Test

Driver reaction time, brake response, hazard reaction speed, and reaction distance
⚡ Quick Start
Watch the road and brake the instant a real braking cue appears
Press Space, tap the road, or use the brake pedal — in Mixed mode, some events do not require braking
Your results show median brake reaction time, reaction distance, and an estimated stopping distance

📖 Detailed Instructions

🚗 What this test measures: how quickly you make a brake response after a visual driving cue appears. Each trial begins with an unpredictable waiting period. Mixed Go / No-Go also tests whether you can withhold braking when an event does not require a stop.

🛑 When to brake:

⚖️ Mixed Go / No-Go: the three braking cues are mixed with harmless events. An amber turn signal on the car ahead or a bird at the roadside is a no-brake event. Braking on one counts as a false brake.

⌨️ How to respond: press Space or Enter, click/tap the road scene, or use the on-screen BRAKE pedal. Braking before any event appears counts as a false start and that trial is presented again after a new wait.

📱 Phone Alert Distractions: Advanced Settings can add brief message alerts during some waiting periods. They do not require any response.

📏 Distance results: the selected speed is used to calculate reaction and estimated stopping distances; it does not change the visual motion of the test. Reaction distance is the approximate distance traveled at that selected speed between a braking cue and your brake input. Estimated stopping distance adds a theoretical hard-braking distance using a fixed dry-road deceleration assumption of 6.9 m/s².

⏯️ Session controls: press P to pause and Esc to end the test. Leaving the tab or window pauses the active timing until you resume.
