What is a Schulte Table?
The Schulte Table is a grid of randomly arranged numbers used to train peripheral vision and improve reading speed. It was developed by German psychiatrist Walter Schulte and is widely used in speed reading courses.
How to use:
- Select your grid size - beginners should start with 3×3, classic is 5×5
- Click START - the timer begins immediately
- Click numbers in ascending order: 1, 2, 3, 4... until complete
- Try to keep your eyes fixed near the center red dot
- Use your peripheral vision to locate each number
- Wrong clicks are counted as errors but don't stop the test
Training tips:
- Don't scan: Resist the urge to systematically search the grid
- Soft focus: Relax your eyes and let numbers "pop out" from your peripheral vision
- Regular practice: 5-10 minutes daily yields best results
- Progress gradually: Master 5×5 before moving to 7×7
Benefits:
- Expanded peripheral vision field
- Faster reading speed (fewer eye fixations per line)
- Improved visual attention and concentration
- Better information processing speed
