Easy uses familiar fill and direct clues. Medium broadens the vocabulary. Hard and Expert use progressively more crossword-like clues while keeping the fill fair. Mixed combines Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert clue styles within each crossword.
Each 7×7 puzzle is a blocked crossword with rotationally symmetric black squares. The generator uses several validated layouts, and every playable square is checked by both an Across and a Down answer.
Click a square to select its word. Click the same crossing square again, or press Space, to switch between Across and Down.
Type letters directly into the grid. Backspace clears the current square; arrow keys move one square at a time. Tab jumps to the next unfinished clue, Shift+Tab moves backward, and Escape moves focus to the check controls.
Check Letter verifies only the selected square. Check Word checks the current answer. Check Puzzle marks currently incorrect filled squares without revealing their answers.
Reveal Letter fills the selected square. Reveal Word fills the selected answer. Revealed letters are marked with a small dot.
Clear My Entries removes letters you typed while keeping letters you revealed.
After every square is filled, the grid remains editable so you can review or check it before choosing See Results.
Reveal Full Puzzle fills the entire solution when you choose to give up, then lets you view your results based on the state of the grid before the reveal.
The timer can be turned off. When it is on, switching away from the browser tab pauses it. Solve time stops when the crossword is completely correct, or when you choose See Results or reveal the full solution.
Return to Start abandons the current attempt without adding it to Recent Results.

Numbered and generated puzzles: Puzzle 1–20 are fixed, prevalidated crosswords, so each numbered puzzle stays stable. Generate New Puzzle creates a new crossword on demand, avoids recently served grids, and uses a separate prevalidated reserve only if live generation cannot produce a puzzle promptly.
