🃏 Card Sorting Flexibility Test

Infer the hidden rule, then adapt when it changes.
⚡ Quick Start
•Sort each target card into one of four piles. The hidden rule is based on color, shape, or number.
•You are only told Correct or Incorrect. Use the feedback to work out the current rule.
•After you establish a rule, it may change without warning. Adapt from the feedback rather than following the old rule.

📘 Detailed Instructions

Objective: Work out the hidden sorting rule and keep adapting as the rule changes. The active rule is always based on color, shape, or number.

How to sort:

Finding the rule:

Controls: Click or tap one of the four reference cards. On a keyboard, you can also press 1, 2, 3, or 4 for the matching pile. Press P to pause or resume and Esc to end the test.

Session length: Short uses 4 rule sets, Standard uses 6, and Extended uses 8. A session also ends if its trial limit is reached before all rule sets are completed.

Pausing and ending: Pausing hides the cards and stops active timing until you resume. Leaving the tab automatically pauses the session. End Test asks for confirmation, then discards the unfinished session and returns to the start screen without saving it to history.

Your results: The result screen shows rule sets completed, sorting accuracy, perseverative errors with a per-switch rate when a completed rule change provides a denominator, set-loss errors with their opportunity denominator, trials to the first completed rule set, average sort time, and trials used. Set-loss percentages appear once there are at least five opportunities.
